Patriot Games Radio - DNC Day 3; GOP V.P. Pick; Hillary’s “Flat” Speech

Election 2008 August 27th, 2008

Patriot Games Radio - DNC Coverage will feature local Democrats speaking honestly about their impressions of the convention, the candidates, and the remaining election cycle. Hosted live from Doyle’s Cafe.

Patriot Games Radio host, Boston Patriot amends her previous assertion regarding John McCain’s Vice Presidential selection. The most likely choice: Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty.

More affirmation that Hillary’s prime-time speech was flat (although I am apparently within the minority on this one). Embedded Video

Patriot Games Radio - August 25, 2008 Summary

Election 2008 August 26th, 2008

Patriot Games Radio - August 25, 2008. Broadcast LIVE from Doyle’s Cafe in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood. On the docket: good company, good audience, good guests = SUCCESS!!!

The night began with an opening monologue, followed by attorney Ed O’Reilly, candidate for US Senate. He is running in the Democratic primary to unseat the incumbent, John F. Kerry. The next guest: Jeff Beatty, who will represent Massachusetts Republicans in an effort to unseat John F. Kerry. An Eileen McNamara column described Kerry as “Imperious, arrogant, and indifferent…” The last guest but certainly not the least: David Paleologos, pollster extraordinare from Boston’s own Suffolk University. A newly released Suffolk University poll conducted by Paleologos describes the state of Colorado as a swing state, advantage Obama.

Audience participation was fantastic: calls came in from Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts. The “chatizens” represented Washington state, Colorado, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Maryland.
The preponderance of the event was filmed by documentary filmmaker Ornit Barkai of Tinro Media Works. Special thanks to her and to her husband. Patriot Games Radio will be broadcasting live from Doyle’s Cafe from 8-10 PM EDT. Tune in.

Breaking News: NFL Player’s Association Head Eugene Upshaw Reported Dead

football August 21st, 2008

Fox Sports’ J.T. “The Brick” first reported this on the overnight show. Wikipedia is subsequently confirming it and NFL.Com has belatedly followed suit. First and foremost, Patriot Games Radio extends its condolences to the Upshaw family. Secondly, Upshaw’s passing likely represents the end of a “go along to get along” approach by union leadership and the beginning of a more confrontational approach. We will be reporting more on this story as soon as guests can be arranged.

The Day John S. McCain Became U.S. President (August 20, 2008) and Why

Election 2008 August 20th, 2008

The rapidly changing (some may say deteriorating) world scene is shifting the electoral landscape rapidly. A suddenly renascent Cold War, characterized by an oil-rich and aggressive Russia and a resource-hungry China, has thrust foreign policy front and center. Not surprisingly, this favors Republicans, and, by extension, John McCain. The fact that, simultaneously, Iraq appears to be fading as a policy millstone only enhances McCain’s newfound momentum. Notwithstanding the fact that Election 2008 should favor Democrats, the public still gives the national security/foreign policy edge to Republicans. Admittedly, the McCain camp captured the campaign momentum by cleverly likening Obama’s “rock star status” to that of Britney Spears/Paris Hilton in terms of vapidity. It’s a momentum that has since accelerated given Russia’s recent aggression against it’s Georgian neighbors and the attendant realignment of Eastern Europe into America’s orbit. For those of us who came of age during the Reagan Administration, it’s deja vu all over again. As such, this is hardly the time to entrust the executive branch of the American government to an inexperienced young man armed with little more than a dazzling smile and a boatload of good intentions - perhaps. We at Patriot Games Radio maintain our assertion that Obama’s quest for the presidency will fall short, for a variety of reasons including:
The  “Annoy the media, Vote McCain” crowd and general voter disgust of Obama’s pompous preening. Add to this mix the re-emergence of Foreign Policy and National Security as primary campaign issues, and victory almost assuredly belongs to John McCain. At least until tomorrow unfolds. Stay tuned.

The AP, Corporate Taxes and “The Media”

public policy August 18th, 2008

When I first read the AP headline: “”, I admitted to being taken aback (see link below). That is, until I read the story and came to the conclusion that headlines are frequently misleading. Frequently, they serve as a means to an end of “scraping eyeballs” toward a particular story line. In this case, if all you read is the headline, you will come to the conclusion that “corporations are not paying their fair share” and other such nonsense. In reality, corporations don’t pay taxes, shareholders and people do. Moreover, many business entities today operate on a “pass-through” basis, meaning that they pass through any profits that may exist directly to the owner(s) personal tax bracket and return. So technically, the “business entity” doesn’t pay taxes in addition to the owners. The tax man is only getting one bite (and a very large one at that) of the profit apple. Which is the way it ought to be. The AP can be excused for not possessing extensive knowledge of tax policy, who does? They can’t be forgiven however, for not giving both sides of the story. The Tax Foundation is one such source as is Americans for Tax Reform.

Patriot Games Radio guest Ambassador John R. Bolton Outlines A Course of Action to Thwart Russian Aggression In Its Tracks

John Bolton August 16th, 2008

One of Patriot Games Radio’s favorite guests, John R. Bolton, discusses Russian aggression against the Georgian republic, and what the proper course of action should be going forward in this article. Europe/NATO must take leadership on this issue (which suggests that nothing of value will ever be accomplished).
